What's With Varitek & Passed Balls Lately?

Jason Varitek had another crucial 3rd strike ball go through his legs last night & this time it cost the Red Sox in a 4-3 loss to the Angels. The ruling on the field was a wild pitch by Beckett, but not from what I saw.

This is the 2nd night in a row that Varitek lets a ball get by him at a crucial point in the game. Maybe his reactions are slowing down after catching more than 1 night in a row. While Victor was gone Varitek caught all 3 games in a row against the Angels.

It was an odd game in many ways last night. Sure-handed J.D. Drew muffed a fly ball over his head for a ground rule double. Francona decided to pinch-hit Baldelli with 2 outs in the 9th instead of Youk. Very strange.

Still, we took 2 out of 3 from the Angels & have opened up a 6 game lead on the Rangers with 17 games left. Even if the Sox play .500 the rest of the way, say 9-8, the Rangers would need to go 15-2 just to tie. Time is running out on Texas.
