The weather was ugly. The game was ugly. The pitching was really ugly.
Tim Wakefield - 5. Manny Delcarmen - 4. Daniel Bard - 2. Billy Wagner - 1. 12 runs & 11 walks given up by Sox pitchers last night in a terrible 12-9 loss to the KC Royals. The pitching staff squandered leads of 6-0 & 8-2. Delcarmen has been especially horrible in his last few appearances, not even able to get through 1 inning of work.
This loss couldn't have come at a worse time down the stretch. The Sox were gaining ground on the Yankees & they could have reduced their magic number in the Wild Card to 6. Add to the fact that the Royals will send Cy Young candidate Zack Greinke to the mound tonight versus our #5 or #6 starter - the Byrd man.
It could be a long week in KC.
