Wake: "A" For Effort

Tim Wakefield gets an "A" for effort. He hobbled around & pitched as long as he could yesterday. His limp to first base showed just how much he gave to the Red Sox yesterday. Wake gets the 2009 bloody sock award for going above & beyond.

The Sox have 4 more games in a row -- 2 in Chicago, then 2 at home vs. the Orioles -- before 2 off-days sandwiched around a 3-game home series against the Rays. Those off-days may prove to be invaluable as they get ready for a final 20 game run in 20 days to finish the regular season. It will give management a chance to line-up their pitching for the remainder of the year which features 3 against the Ray, 3 against the Angels & 3 in New York.

Right now Byrd & Tazawa are still in the rotation, assuming Wake will not be back. Don't be surprised to see a Michael Bowden or a long reliever make a start against one of the lesser opponents like Baltimore, Kansas City or Cleveland.

Hold on, pitchers. The end of the season is coming.
