Tim Wakefield on Monday?

Tim Wakefield threw 25 pitches yesterday & is penciled in as the Red Sox starter in Chicago on Monday. Assuming no setbacks from his side session, Wake would be a nice shot in the arm for this staff.

His one comeback game off the DL was superb. 7 innings of scoreless ball against the White Sox or Toronto I believe. For an old guy who made his first All-Star game on the strength of 11 first half wins, he certainly has had bumps in the road in the 2nd half.

However, an 80% Wakefield may be a better option than more starts by Paul Byrd & Junichi Tazawa. Dice-K looks a long way from the big show & we may never see him again with the big club this year. Getting Wake back will give the Sox 4 quality starters now that Buchholz has settled in. Francona can mix & match with the 5th starting spot over the remaining 28 games.

Stay healthy, Wake. We need you to finish the season.
