The Texas Rangers officially ended their Wild Card run with a 3-2 loss to the LA Angels. The Boston Red Sox enter the playoffs now as the AL Wild Card.
Would it have been better to win your way in? Sure. But the regular season is a marathon of 162 games & the Red Sox did outrun the Rangers with 91 wins to date. They deserve to be one of the last 8 teams standing.
As one of my commentors mentioned, should Sox players be popping champagne after losing 5 in a row? Maybe not. They did, however, put themselves in a position to clinch the Wild Card with 2 weeks left in the season. The first goal is achieved to make the playoffs. Now we'll see how far they can go against a tougher LA Angels team than in the past.
Time to get Beckett & Lester healthy. We need at least one win in LA to return to Fenway with a chance to finish off the ALDS at home. LA does not like playing in Fenway. We saw that in their last series.
Enjoy the rest of the week, fans. The Wild Card race is over. We won!
