Red Sox win. Rangers lose. Magic number down to 3 as the Red Sox-Yankees kick off the final 3-game series of the regular season in New York tonight. Lester goes against Joba the Hut.
The Sox slapped the Royals last night to earn a split in KC after dropping the first 2 games on Monday & Tuesday. Clay Buchholz pitched another gem. David Ortiz added another HR & 4 RBI. Jacoby Ellsbury contributed 3 hits & 2 more stolen bases. And Tito was able to rest Kevin Youkilis & J.D. Drew. The Royals committed several errors & looked like a Spring Training team after playing the Sox tough for 3 nights in a row.
Back to Buchholz, he had it goin' on last night with all 4 pitches. A 95 plus fastball, a sharp slider, an excellent curve & a devastating change kept the Royals batters guessing last night. Even when he missed, Buchholz kept the ball down. What a big turnaround for this kid who was part of several trade scenarios at the trade deadline. Since then, he has been on quite a roll & has locked up the #3 spot for the playoffs.
There could be champagne flowing in New York by Sunday night.
