What a difference a day, or two, makes. Jon Lester had bases loaded, one out before the Friday rains came & cancelled the game. Tonight he was masterful, pitching 8 innings of shutout ball to give the Sox a sweep of the Rays.
Jason Varitek had a rare big hit in this game, a 2-run single that skipped around Aybar's glove at first. We'll take it. Jason Bay added a cheapy home run around the Pesky Pole for the 4th run. But they all count.
2 wins today keeps the pressure on the Rangers to win both of their games today. The Rangers are 3 games back with 20 to go. Time is winding down, although the Sox host the Angels for 3. It could be a tough series, given that we will have Dice-K & Paul Byrd/Tim Wakefield for 2 of the 3 starts.
It was a great weekend to beat the Rays 3 in a row. Enjoy the day off & watch the Patriots on Monday night.
