Jon Lester tries to keep the ball rolling forward towards the playoffs tonight with a start at home against the Rays. He is opposed by James Shields who has had success against the Sox in the past.
Tampa Bay has had the Red Sox number this year, although the Sox did take 2 out of 3 at the Trop in their last meeting. The Rays have since floundered, losing several games in a row. They have moved from Wild Card contender to Wild Card spoiler as the Rays have games remaining against both the Sox & the Rangers.
Longoria has killed the Sox pitching this year. I say walk him every time or pitch around him. With Pena on the DL for the rest of the year there is no one else in that lineup that scares you with the long ball.
We need every win.
