Brad Penny & John Smoltz

OK, I'm tired already of hearing about how great Brad Penny & John Smoltz are pitching in the National League. Here's reality:

- Neither could make it in a big market city like Boston. The competition in the AL East is tough up & down the entire order. No cream puff #8 & #9 batters like in the NL.

- The Red Sox are in a pennant race. We don't have the luxury of babying non-performers down the stretch.

- Given enough time, both will resort to being average pitchers at best. They can both thank the Sox rehab program for their shoulders coming back & allowing them to play another year or two.

I wish them both well, but neither Penny nor Smoltz were a good fit in Boston. It's no surprise that both went back to the NL.
