Yanks Bomb Beckett

Josh Beckett gave up 5 home runs in an 8-4 defeat at Fenway to the Yankees. The Yankees leave Beantown adding a game to their AL East lead after taking 2 out of 3 over the weekend. The Red Sox are 10-11 so far in the month of August.

Beckett has given up 10 long balls in his last 3 starts. Cause for concern? I say no. You can't have 34 perfect starts in a season. Josh will figure it out & come back strong against Toronto on Friday. Meantime, the Chicago White Sox come to town for a big 4 game series. Time to get re-focused on Ozzie's crew.

The good news to me is that the Sox offense scored plenty of runs off Burnett on Saturday & they got Sabathia out of the game early last night after scoring 4 off him. A good Beckett & a good Lester can convert those games into wins.

Finally, I think Beckett could have called it quits after 6 innings, but he stayed out there for 2 more to save the bullpen. That's a small thing that may go unnoticed by most fans, but not his coaches & teammates. Maybe a rested bullpen translates into a few more wins against the White Sox.
