Tim Wakefield will take Brad Penny's next start on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox. No decision has been made about Penny for the future.
Wake has been on the DL for about a month with a bad back & ailing calf muscle. He pitched well enough in Triple-A on Friday to get his rotation spot back with the big club.
Wake's comeback is not a minute too soon after Penny laid a big egg on Friday against the Yankees. But, as Lou Merloni said yesterday, don't throw any pitchers away just yet. Let's keep everyone around -- just in case.
A few quality starts by Wakefield, who is 11-3 this year, would certainly help down the stretch.
