Sox Finish Sweep of Jays 7-0

Paul Byrd was crafty for 6 innings as he worked around 3 walks & allowed just 3 hits. He gave the Sox a great fill-in performance in their 7-0 win against the Blue Jays. Jays batters were off-balance most of the day against Byrd.

The long awaited debut of Billy Wagner took place in the 8th, the inning where the Sox may use him for the remainder of this season. Wagner gave up 1 hit, but struckout 3 in his 1st inning of work as a non-closer for the Sox.

The win today closes the month of August at 16 wins & 12 losses. Now the Sox start the final month of the regular season on the road with 3 in Tampa Bay & 4 in Chicago. The Rays lost today widening the gap in the Wild Card race. A good trip to Tampa may put the Rays out of the race completely.
