Joba Chamberlain dodged a bullet by getting matched up opposite John Smoltz. He barely, I mean barely, made it through the 5th inning in an ugly performance to get an underserved win.
Joba the Hut was one walk or one hit away from being yanked in the 5th after the Yankees offense has put away the game in the bottom of the 4th with 8 runs. 100 plus pitches. 4 runs in 5 innings. Several walks. Two home runs. Not a pitching line that normally wins ballgames. But 14 runs of offense by the Yanks against poor Red Sox triple-A pitching by Smoltz & Trabor gets the pinstripes a win.
If the Red Sox score 6 runs in each of the next 3 games, they win at least 2 out of 3 with Beckett going tonight & Lester on Sunday night. Stay positive Red Sox fans. We knew Smoltz would get lit up in Game 1.
