I was the head coach of a Division 2 program for a few years. So, on a much smaller scale than the microscope that Tito lives under for 162 games a year, I know about 2nd guessing yourself regarding moves that you make or don't make. If a move works, you're a hero. If not, you're a goat.
As a regular fan watching last night's game, here's my Saturday morning quarterbacking on last night's 15 inning loss.
- Late in the game why didn't Francona have Pedroia bunt with runners at first & second with no outs? I know you hate to give up an out, but it would have given Victor & Youk each a chance to knock in a run. When you're not scoring you do what you need to.
- Why is it that we keep running out of pitchers in extra inning games? Why did Bard & Saito only go one inning? I would have gone all out last night rather than worry about who is available today to backup Buchholz.
- Why was Mike Lowell on the bench all night? Varitek could have been pinch-hit for in extra innings when J.D. Drew was walked intentionally. I don't think Varitek got a ball out of the infield all night.
Anyway, that's my quarterbacking. Today's a new day. Maybe today is our day.
