After my last article on Brad Penny, I need to say something positive about last night.
- Jacoby Ellsbury tied a 36-year old record last night with his 54th steal of the season. He will certainly break the record in the coming days. Almost unnoticed, Ellsbury has been getting on base with frequency & driving in important runs. Correspondingly, the Sox offense has been much better when Jacoby is productive in the leadoff spot.
- The Sox offense put up 11 runs last night, good enough to win in 99 out of 100 games, just not last night. Even Varitek hit a late inning homer. No question that this is an much better lineup with Victor catching & Varitek or Papi on the pine. Lowell, who also homered, needs to stay in the lineup.
- Nice to see Jerry Remy back in the booth. He seemed to be his old self. Maybe that was just what the doctor ordered.
OK, that's might best "glass half full" that I can muster after a humiliating defeat.
