Billy Wagner to Boston?

Interesting move, Theo. The Sox are still tinkering with their roster. To me that means management believes the Sox will be in the playoffs.

Besides the recent addition of two starters, Victor Martinez & Alex Gonzalez, the Sox have put in a waiver claim on Billy Wagner. (I'm not counting Paul Byrd as he is more of a Plan Z than Plan B.) Wagner could add a 2nd lefty to the bullpen with some gas. We won't know for sure until Tuesday whether or not this deal goes through.

In his hayday Wagner was able to bring-it around 100 mph. In his first relief appearance after Tommy John surgery Wagner pitched a scoreless inning of relief & hit 96 on the gun. How bad can that be to add a lefty to the pen? As Pap said, I guess it depends on who gets moved out. With September call-ups around the corner the Sox could move Bard or another reliever back to Triple-A for a week.

I like it.

Lots of moves! Hey....did you hear about the new guy in St. Louis? He pitched 5 shut out innings, gave up only 3 hits, struck out 9. At one point he struck out 7 in a row. His name is Smoltz. Go figure!
