Josh Beckett has not been Josh Beckett-like lately. He has given up long balls at an alarming rate over his past 3 starts. 5 in all to the Yankees in his last start alone.
For the Sox to go anywhere - as far as making the playoffs & then to advance - we need the 2007 version of Josh Beckett that we saw for most of this June & July. When Beckett is right he has unhittable stuff. The key is the ability to locate his fastball - in & out, up & down. The fastball sets up his curve & change.
Every start in a pennant race is a must-win in late August & September. But Josh is our #1 & we need him to suck-up innings & win every time he takes the mound now. I think he's ready for the challenge.
