Josh Beckett pitched out of trouble when he needed to & put up all "0's" for 7 innings. Okajima & Bard finished off the shutout for Josh to earn his MLB league-leading 13th win. It looks like 2007 again for Beckett whose stats mirror that superb year.
Kevin Youkilis is hitting like April & May again. He was 4-for-4 with a walk. One of his hits was a four-bagger, his 2nd homer in as many nights. While the score was only 4-0 it seems like it was a much more lopsided win as the Sox left the bases loaded twice. A Yankees loss, 4th in a row, puts the Sox only 1/2 game behind in the standings.
Victor Martinez made a nice debut at 1B with one hit & one RBI to drive in the 3rd run. Putting him in the middle of the order really extends the depth of the lineup. He should catch Buccholz today. If so, the 5-6-7 hitters may be Bay, Drew & Lowell. Not bad when you can hit these guys down in the order.
Josh Reddick becames another farm hand to make his debut as well. He chipped in 2 hits & may stick around with the big club if Bay's leg cramp is of any consequence.
Let's win the finale in Baltimore today before we hit Tampa Bay & New York for 6.
