The Red Sox started August with 14 out of 18 games away from Friendly Fenway. They are 9-9 for the month.
Now the tables will turn as the Sox finish out the month with 10 games at home. Even though the Boston nine plays much better at home than on the road, the competition remains tough. Starting tonight, 3 games against the Yankees who hold a 6 1/2 game lead over Boston in the AL East. Next up is the Chicago White Sox, a contender in the AL Central, who are in for a 4-game set. Then the Blue Jays come to town for 3 more to finish off the month.
On one of our podcasts I said that if the Sox pull within 5 or less games of the Yankees & keep the Wild Card lead, that would be a good close to August. And I still think they can. To do that, however, the Sox will need an 8-2 or 7-3 homestand. 6-4 or 5-5 won't do it.
Think positive, fans. I am. Home cooking, plus the Fenway fans, will get us through these next 10 games in 10 days.
