Where's the Beef?

There's no beef in that Red Sox offense since the All-Star break. A 1-4 start coupled with a 5-0 start by those darn Yankees finds the Sox in 2nd place today.

The only pitcher to win a game this half was Clay Buchholz who goes against Texas tonight in place of the newly DL'ed Tim Wakefield. Lester & Beckett both pitched well enough to win on a normal night when the Sox offense scores 5 or more runs. But runs have been hard to come by this week.

Take heart, Red Sox fans. Hitting will come & go, but good pitching will win more times than not. The bigger concern to me is to get Penny back to his winning ways & to get Smoltz away from the one big inning. Lester, Beckett & Buchholz give us a chance to win every time out.

As the trade deadline looms, I am still a proponent of adding Victor Martinez. His bat & his versatility in the field (a Kevin Youkilis of sorts) make him the best option for the helping the Red Sox this year & in the future.
