An Ugly Defeat

It was enough to drive you to drink. Or throw a shoe at the TV. The Red Sox lost the opener to the lowly KC Royals by a score of 8-6. Why was it frustrating?

1) It's Kansas City.

2) We had a 4 run lead with Penny pitching.

3) We have the best home record in baseball.

4) It's Kansas City.

5) The Yankees won & we are tied for first place now.

My thinking was we take 3 out of 4 or all 4 from the Royals & go into the All-Star break in first place. We can still win these last 3 games with Lester, Smoltz & Beckett pitching. We also need the Angels to beat the Yankees a few times out in LA this weekend.

Put last night's game in the ugly column.

KC has a good young pitching staff, but they can't hit very well; so when you get a 4-0 lead, you should win the game. The bullpen hasn't been exactly lights out lately.
