I hear a lot of speculation about what & who the Red Sox may trade for before the July 31st trade deadline. Check our 5th podcast as to some of our own crystal ball picks.
One option that I thought about recently -- no trades. Why?
1) The Red Sox are in 1st place with the current roster.
2) Unless Mike Lowell & Jason Varitek are not going to play the rest of this year, where would you put a new addition? A front line player is going to want a starting job, not a part-time job. 3) Unless the Green-Lowrie-Lugo situation at short doesn't work out, there's really no room for a new shortstop.
4) As a part-time or bench player, who is out there in a limited capacity that can fill-in better than Baldelli & Kotsay?
5) The pitching staff is one of the best in baseball. Why mess with that?
I think no trades is a definite possibility.
