Most sports shows in & out of Boston expect the Red Sox to make a blockbuster deal before today's 4:00 PM deadline. Why? Because of the multitude of solid prospects in their farm system.
In the minors I think it's anyone goes with a few exceptions -- Kelly, Tazawa to name two. In the majors there are also only a few exceptions -- Youk, Pedroia, Lester, Beckett, & now Daniel Bard.
Between the minors & majors the Red Sox have enough trade bait to address their needs for 2009 & beyond. Another power hitter in the 3, 4, 5 spot. Another starting pitcher to replace the 40+ year olds & Dice-K. Another catcher to replace banged up Varitek.
Adrian Gonzalez, Victor Martinez, Roy Halladay & others are all still out there. Looking at the asking prices for Cliff Lee, Freedy Sanchez, Jake Wilson & George Sherrill it make not take that much to land one or two of these guys.
Given the inconsistent play lately, I'm OK with whoever they give up in order to get some new blood for the next two months & the playoffs.

This morning I heard Buckholtz for Martinez. A 3rd team is also somehow involved. I also heard that Richardi says all talks for Halliday are dead.
