Trade Deadline Deals

Sorry, folks, I'm changing my mind. I was of the opinion that the Red Sox should keep what they have & I thought that would be good enough to get them into the playoffs. Now I'm thinking that they could be the odd man out between the Yankees & Rays.

As usual, the Sox always have a good first half, struggle in July & right the ship in mid-August for the stretch run. The Yankees are a better 2nd half team & are now tied with the Sox in first. Tampa Bay is hanging around at 4 1/2 out.

I'm on board now that the Red Sox need another bat. The only guy out there versatile enough to get playing time in this lineup is Victor Martinez. Martinez gives you options at first, catcher & DH. He is also a back-up plan should Bay go elsewhere in 2010.

Here's my trade offer:

Sox get Victor Martinez.

Indians get Michael Bowdon, Laars Anderson & Brad Penny.

If we had to offer a 4th prospect, I'd do it. Other than Martinez, I don't see another guy out there that can add the versatility to impact this lineup.

I think another problem is the constant line-up shuffling. Ellsbury has been lead-off, 7th, 5th, 8th.....the kid doesn't know whether he is coming or going. I understand then desire to shake things up a little, but once you do, you leave it be for a while. They are also keepng Bay in the 5th sopt due to high OBP. I think you need more than that from your 5th hitter. Walks are nice, but you need someone there to hit for average. .250 is not doing it. SB
