The Boston Red Sox have started the 2nd half with their worst road trip of the season, losing 5 out of 6 games to Toronto & Texas with a punchless offense. They again squandered a good pitching effort by Clay Buchholz & bullpen to lose 3-1. The one run came via a homer by #9 hitter Nick Green.
The Sox are a much better team at home & they need to be now to stave off the Wild Card threat from Tampa Bay & Texas who are just a couple of games behind. The Sox get some much need home cooking for 3 against the Orioles & 4 against the A's. They need a 5-2, 6-1, 7-0 kind of homestand to get back in the race.
Starting tonight newly acquired Adam LaRoche will have his chance to help the offense. It was pathetic to see some of the swings last night by the likes of Varitek & Kotsay. Dave Magaden better get off his duff & start working with these hitters. As the schedule heats up in August & September, we need to close out July within a few games of the Yankees & not fall farther back.
Victor Martinez, where are you?
