The Baltimore Orioles stuck it to the Red Sox last night by scoring 10 runs in 2 innings. The Red Sox blew a 10-1 lead & ended up losing 11-10. It was a crazy way to end what was an excellent month of June.
The Sox went 18-8 in June. 10 games above .500 was good enough to move into first place. We saw the offensive return of David Ortiz with 7 home runs in the month. Starters Lester, Beckett, Penny & Wakefield regularly went 6 quality innings or more in starts. Pedroia moved back into the #2 spot & has responded well. Up & down the lineup there were contributions by every player.
Going forward, the health of Mike Lowell & Dice-K are issues for Francona to work around. With the trade deadline a month away Jed Lowrie's return may signal the end for Julio Lugo. Will Brad Penny or Clay Buchholz still be members of the Sox on August 1st?
We start July 1st in first place. I predict we will still be in first on August 1st. Let's see if my crystal ball is right.
