Jonathan Papelbon has not had many 1-2-3 9th innings this year. Tonight was no exception as he gave up a run, but struck out the last 2 batters to preserve a 5-4 win for the Sox.
I admit being a nay-sayer about Pap this year. Too many hits. Too many runs. Too many pitches. But, as Yoda says, there is no try. You do or don't do. And Pap is a doer since he has converted 22 of 24 save opportunities this year.
It would be nice to have clean innings. But a win is a win, a save is a save. At the end of the day that is the only stat that matters.
