The talk of the night was the Red Sox sweep of the Blue Jays to move within 1/2 game of first place in the AL East. Nice effort from Jon Lester who was the 3rd Boston pitcher to stifle the best offense in the American League.
But down on the farm, John Smoltz made his first return to the mound in over a year. His arm felt fine afterwards. Smoltzie moves onto another rehab assignment on Tuesday, possibly for the Portland Sea Dogs. New England fans may get to see him throw against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Personally, I can't wait to see Smoltz up with the big team. He can be the biggest acquisition to help with a pennant run over the last 3-4 months of the season. I believe that his presence & experience can only benefit everyone else around him.
