No Love Lost Between Penny & Bowa

Brad Penny looks to rebound from an injury-plagued 2008 with the LA Dodgers. He is slated to start the year as the Sox #5 starter.

Last year there was an obvious disconnect between Penny & assistant LA coach Larry Bowa. Neither will be sitting down to dinner together anytime soon.

From Penny's point-of-view Bowa was stirring up trouble by telling Dodger players that he wasn't hurt & should be pitching. As a result, players were coming up to Penny & questioning him about what they were being told.

Bowa recently commented that Penny frustrated him by never performing to the level that was expected. He thought that Penny was out of shape & wasn't one of his team guys. Bowa has never been one to mix words which can motivate some players & de-motivate others.

Penny looks to be in good shape this year & should find a better fit with the Boston players & coaching staff. Let's hope that his frustrating 2008 turns into a productive 2009.
