The AL East will be even more competitive next year as the Yanks shore up their starting pitching with the signing of CC Sabathia. It remains to be seen if Sabathia will perform to the level of his $160 million contract.
Next up for the Yankees rotation could be a signing of AJ Burnett or Derek Lowe. They may makes offers to both in the hopes of getting one.
In the meantime, the Red Sox focus is on the re-signing of Jason Varitek. They are also very involved in the 4-team Mark Teixeira sweepstakes. Besides the Sox, it looks like the Angels, Nationals & Orioles are all making offers for Teixeira's services.
I can't see the Sox going for more than 5-year deal under the present ownership, but you never know. Some reports say the length of contract for Teixeira could be 8 to 10 years at a minimum of $20 million per year.
Regardless of Teixeira, with more pitching the Yankees will be a threat again in the AL East.
