The national media is still picking the Rays to finish off the Red Sox. Let them.
The TBS announcers pulled out stat after stat about who did what in the regular season. Hello, boys! This isn't fantasy baseball. The only stat that matters now is how a pitcher feels on Saturday or how a hitter feels on Saturday. It's why you play the game.
How many times did we hear that when Longoria knocks in a run the Rays almost always win? How many times did they say when Tampa is up by 5 runs in the 7th they never lose? Wrong on both counts, weren't they?
I heard a speech once by Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team. He said on paper the US team should have never won the Gold Medal. But it's the intangibles that define a team -- your hustle, your work ethic & most of all your heart.
The Sox showed a lot of heart on Friday. They proved all the experts wrong. Let's hope the intangibles take them to another win on Saturday.
