The goal of every MLB team is to win the World Series. However, sometimes coming in second is still a great accomplishment. That's how I feel about this season.
The Red Sox gave their fans more than expected this year. Other than Jon Lester, every starting pitcher spent time on the DL. Big Papi missed 1/3 of the season. J.D. Drew missed 2 months. Both were playing hurt. Mike Lowell was out during the year & for the better part of the post-season. Hard to replace all those contributors from the past, especially Lowell at the plate. I still think the Red Sox have the best starting 9 when everyone is healthy.
Game 5 was a magical comeback for the ages. Game 6 was a grind-it-out win. Game 7 was just one big hit short with men on base. You can only comeback against good teams so many times.
As one of my blog commentors said, Tampa Bay seems to be a team of destiny this year. You knew Game 7 was not going well when a little ground ball by Baldelli finds a hole to produce a run. It's a game of inches & we couldn't find any holes tonight.
Good year by the Red Sox players. Good luck to the Rays in the World Series.
