Sox Sweep With A Little Luck

The Red Sox are playing hard. They are getting contributions from every player up & down the lineup. And now they are getting some luck to boot. Boston beat Baltimore 5-4 to sweep their 3 game series with game-winning small ball in the 9th.

There are many sayings in baseball. One that I always liked is "the harder you work, the luckier you get." Luck was definitely an element in this afternoon's win as a rookie pitcher for the Orioles made an ill-advised throw to third on a bunt by Jacoby Ellsbury that landed in LF, allowing the game winner in the form of Alex Cora to cross the plate in the 9th.

The Sox played hard to come back from a 4-0 deficit as late as the 7th. Pedroia started things with a big HR in the 7th & a 2-run triple from Mark Kotsay tied the game in the 8th. Earlier, a great catch by Ellsbury in RF saved a HR as well.

The Sox are poised for a great stretch run. No matter whose name is in the lineup everyone works hard & plays hard. Beckett & Lowell, big additions off the DL, will see action this weekend in Texas. We are getting players back at the right time.

Maybe the sun, moon & stars are aligning again for the Red Sox as in 2004 & 2007.
