Josh Beckett is back. Mike Lowell is back. Sean Casey is back.
Less players on the DL will certainly help the Red Sox compete this weekend against the high scoring offense of the Texas Rangers. With 3 1/2 games to make-up on the Rays we can use every able-bodied player available.
Beckett, Lowell & Casey leave the DL train that still has players like J.D. Drew, Curt Schilling & Julio Lugo aboard. J. D. seems like the only one of those three who will make it back for the playoffs. Bartolo Colon is nearer to providing insurance as an extra arm, maybe during the Toronto doubleheader next weekend.
2 out of 3 would be nice in Texas. A sweep would be great. One thing we can count on is the Rangers pitching staff serving up several meatballs. Only Texas has a worse ERA in the AL than Baltimore.
