Pedroia & Ortiz Continue Hot Streak

Dustin Pedroia continues to make his case for MVP with 5 more RBI from the clean-up spot last night in a 14-2 drubbing of the low flying Orioles. Ortiz hit balls all over the park to add 4 RBI of his own, putting an end to any speculation about his recovery from a wrist injury.

The other amazing stat is that the Red Sox put up 14 runs with a make-shift lineup. No Kevin Youkilis because of back spasms. No Jason Bay because of a planned night off. No Mike Lowell or J.D. Drew because of current stints on the DL. How good will this lineup be if & when they get Lowell & Drew back? With Varitek hitting again it will be a menacing 1 through 9.

A Tampa Bay loss last night tightens up the pennant race. As I mentioned in a previous posting, it's going to be an interesting week.

With Dustin hitting so well, Ortiz is starting to see more pitches. I
loved the comment by Ozzie Guillen last week. "It's the first time I
ever intentionally walked a jockey".
