It was a seesaw battle. 2-0, the 2-1 for the Jays. 3-2 Sox, then 3-3. Finally a 4-3 win on a fielder's choice.
How many fans were screaming at their TV when Byrd gave up the tying run at 3-3 after the Sox finally took the lead 3-2? It was one of those back & forth nights. But beating A.J. Burnett is no easy feat, so we'll take the win. As has been his M.O. recently, Papelbon didn't pitch a clean 9th, but got 3 outs before the Jays scored the tying run.
My game balls for last night go to Paul Byrd & Sean Casey. Byrd made it through 6 innings & only gave up 3 runs. He is usually good for giving up 4 runs. Sean Casey got the huge double off the RF wall & drove in 2 RBI to give the Sox the lead 3-2. Casey is proving to be a valuable fill-in for Lowell just as he was earlier in the year.
Magic number is down to 2.
