Baltimore Orioles Of Old No Longer

The days of Jim Palmer, Mike Cuellar, Mike Flanagan & others are gone. For a franchise that won pennants & World Series based upon pitching it is really a shame what has happened over the last decade.

Baltimore is trying to stay ahead of the lowly Texas Rangers for worst staff ERA in the AL. Last night's game in Boston's 14-2 win was just the latest debacle in a season where leads are given up night after night to poor, poor pitching performances. 10 plus runs are scored against on a regular basis from a combination of walks, hits, steals & even a few defensive errors.

A camers shot of Dave Tremblay last night said volumes to me. He & his pitching coach were in the dugout expressionless as run after run kept crossing the plate for the Red Sox. I'd scrap the whole staff & bring up all the kids from the minors to see if there is someone who could help for 2009. Indeed, they have made many call-ups.

In a year where Tampa Bay is in first & Toronto is above .500 Baltimore stands alone as the only team who has not improved in the AL East. They are being left far behind & it's sad for a once proud franchise.
