What's Up With Beckett?

Josh Beckett was the MVP of the Red Sox playoff run last year. He shutdown Cleveland in the ALCS & Colorado in the World Series with his best stuff at the most critical time of the year. He should have won the Cy Young Award instead of C.C. Sabathia.

2008 has not been so kind to Josh. He started the year on the DL & may end it there. While Theo says that the trip to see a specialist in Alabama is "just for Josh's peace of mind" I'm not buying it. The story has changed from sleeping on his arm wrong to inflammation in the elbow to now visiting Alabama for peace of mind. Sound suspicious to you?

Beckett is a horse in the mold of a Curt Schilling or Roy Halladay. You expect big things every time he takes the mound. He makes hitters look ugly at the plate with his knee-buckling curveball or when firing his fastball with great location. We just haven't seen the Josh Beckett of 2007 during the 2008 campaign all that much. There has to be a reason & we may all find out after his trip to Alabama.

Good luck, Josh. We're all praying for you.
