Let's give Theo some love.
First, he brings in Jason Bay to replace you know who. Bay responds with a ton of RBI in August & plays flawlessly in LF.
Next, Jeff Bailey comes up from AAA & gets a few spot starts at 1B due to injuries. He contributes a home run tonight.
Tonight 21-year old Michael Bowden gets called up from Pawtucket for a spot start. He gives the Red Sox 5 innings of 2-run ball tonight & gets the win.
Earlier this week, corresponding with Drew's move to the DL, Mark Kotsay gets claimed off waivers as an insurance policy for J.D. Drew. He delivers 3 RBI tonight. Mark plays great defense in RF too. Kotsay seems to be another good fit, like Jason Bay, that Theo has orchestrated over the past month. Other than the Rays, the Sox have the best record in baseball for August.
Trips to the DL for Mike Lowell, J.D. Drew, Julio Lugo & Josh Beckett would have sunk the Sox in past years. But insert Jed Lowrie, Jason Bay, Alex Cora, Mark Kotsay, Michael Bowden & you have a team that won on the road -- all 3 series in Baltimore, Toronto & New York -- & their first series at home against the playoff contending White Sox.
Thanks, Theo. Keep searching the waiver wires & developing that young talent. We are going to the playoffs.
