Can Byrd Out-Pitch Ponson?

Paul Byrd is making his biggest start tonight since pitching in the playoffs against the Red Sox last year. A win gives the Red Sox this series against New York & a 6-2 road trip thus far. A loss sets up a pivotal 3rd game in the series finale on Thursday.

Sydney Ponson, the Yankees starter, has moved around from team to team after his scuffle with a judge in Aruba a few years ago. At best he is a fill-in 5th starter, just like Byrd.

It will be a battle of end-of-rotation guys tonight. Watch for balls leaving the yard since Byrd has given up quite a few HR's this season. As long as the Sox end up with one more run than the Yankees, we don't care. It doesn't have to be pretty. A win is a win.
